OUR COOPERATIVE

The Agricultural Livestock Social Cooperative of Mesotopos was founded in 1923 in the village of Mesotopos on the island of Lesvos and has been operating continuously ever since. Our Cooperative currently has 170 registered active members, managing a livestock population of 35,000 sheep and goats, producing over 4,000,000 kilos of sheep and goat milk annually.
We are pioneers and dynamic leaders in the organization, management, and sale of milk and animal feed. We operate from privately owned facilities and have built a state-of-the-art feed and agricultural supply packaging unit. We run a dairy facility where we produce feta, ladotyri (oil-aged cheese), and graviera, as well as a food laboratory where we craft ice cream, yogurt, creams, pastries, spreads, and more. The Cooperative also includes a grocery store and a fuel station.
Beyond Lesvos, we have established branches in other parts of Greece — two in Thessaloniki, located in the central Modiano Market and in Kalamaria, and one in Athens in the Ilioupoli area — where you can find products from many islands of the North Aegean.
Our growth has been driven by investments in technology, expertise, and human resources. We hired experienced scientists, including an agronomist to help our members participate in programs aimed at modernizing their livestock units, increasing their herds, and becoming more competitive. We also employ a veterinarian to monitor and care for the animals.
We established a Milk Producers Group and joined the Genetic Improvement Program for the Lesvos sheep breed, placing emphasis on the continuous and gradual enhancement of the breed’s performance — both quantitatively and qualitatively. From the very first drop of milk, quality is ensured, a process greatly supported by the traditional goat and sheep farming practices in Western Lesvos, where animals graze freely in the mild climate and mountainous pastures. This unique combination of local flora and native breeds contributes to the superior quality composition of our milk, which under certain conditions, can be considered organic and ecological.
Our Cooperative and its leadership are committed to the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, and solidarity.
Our products are exceptional, unique, and of outstanding quality!
